Yogaia asked Rick Hay, The Superfoodist to tell us what are the best superfood combinations to take daily for an increase in energy, better immunity and improved digestive function. In collaboration with our new Fast Fitness HIIT class, following a healthy diet plan can help assist with weight management, toning, cleansing, alkalisation and detoxing, wow!
CACAO, BLUEBERRY AND RASPBERRY
This combo is rich in bioflavonoids, anthocyanidins and resveratrol. These super antioxidants help boost immunity and help the body to protect and repair itself. They have positive benefits in terms of protecting the length of your telomeres ( small tips at the ends of your chromosomes that shorten as the body ages ) Longer healthy telomeres leads to a longer healthy life.
The pigments in the berries are what provide the antioxidant content and combine wonderfully with cacao as this superfood protects against toxins and can repair damage caused by free radicals.
CHIA SEEDS AND SPIRULINA
A teaspoon of chia seeds and Spirulina added to a smoothie in the morning will kick start your metabolism. Chia seeds are high in Omega 3 fatty acids and help with healthy hair, skin and nails and cognition and they also help balance blood sugar which means they could help keep cravings at bay.
They swell slightly when added to liquid which makes you feel fuller for longer. Spirulina also promotes healthy digestion which in turn assists with optimum fat metabolism.
SPIRULINA, WHEATGRASS AND MACA
Spirulina and Wheatgrass both contain high levels magnesium which boosts energy production at a cellular level. When combined with the amino acid dense Maca this combo makes a great pre-exercise option – a nutrient dense natural energy drink that’s caffeine and sugar free. This blend will also help promote lean muscle mass after exercise which assists in fat metabolism and toning.
BARLEY GRASS, TUMERIC AND ALOE VERA
This blend will help to reduce bloating and digestive problems.
Half a teaspoon of barley grass and turmeric powder when added to a smoothie or juice together with 5mls of antiviral, antimicrobial and antibacterial aloe vera juice will soothe digestion.
Turmeric contains curcumin which has been shown to work as a powerful anti-inflammatory.
CHLOROPHYLL, WHEAT GRASS, BARLEY GRASS AND SPIRULINA
Clean and alkalise the system with these four supergreens that will help to alkalise your system – this combo is recommended if you’re body is overly acidic.
These superfoods contain enzymes in the foods that help to create optimum digestion and elimination.
A great alkalising, cleansing and detox trio that will also boost immunity and energy.
